Itinerary
Tuesday, Feb 27th, 2024 - Day 1
Your adventure into our neighboring country starts with a transfer to Reynosa´s airport. Your flight to Mexico City will take less than two hours and… here it is, a huge population of 23+ million people in the metropolitan area, known to locals as DF (Spanish abbreviation for Federal District): the capital of the Mexican Republic!!!
Our tour will include views of the main square or “zócalo”, the presidential palace, once the place where Aztec emperor Moctezuma had his living headquarters, the massive metropolitan cathedral and the ruins of the “Templo Mayor” (Great Temple), and the sacred Aztec temple devoted to the Gods of War and Rain! Once through with lunch, we will leave Mexico City! Our destination is the Villa Monarca Hotel, situated on the outskirts of Zitácuaro, in the state of Michoacan! Enjoy the included dinner and make sure to fully charge the batteries of your cameras and other devices for tomorrow´s destination! Your guide will offer a presentation about the monarch butterfly: learn about the distance they cover from Canada, the multigenerational journey they undertake to go back home, and many other important facts about these migrant fellows!!!
Tonight, the temperature might drop, so, get ready to cuddle up!
Included supper.
Overnight in Zitácuaro
Wednesday, Feb 28th, 2024 - Day 2
Today is the day! We are on our way to the Monarch Biosphere Reserve! Our driver will take us to the town of Ocampo and then to the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary of El Rosario. The wonderful experience of getting so close to the monarch butterflies that you will be able to hear the flapping of their wings and the colorful display they put on when they come down to the ground to get water, will become memories not to be soon forgotten!
We will be dropped off near the visitors’ center and is up the hill for a while, or you may want to rent a horse to ride your way up! Just make sure to take it easy, anyway! As you climb, make sure to look for the Broad-billed hummingbird, you could get a great snap of it!
Millions of Monarch butterflies cluster on fir trees in the state of Michoacán! They certainly happen to be one of the most spectacular shows that nature can offer to mankind! Although we might not want to, we´ll have to continue to our next stop.
Breakfast and lunch included.
