This tour is very hard to describe because Chiapas is one of the most beautiful and full of history states in the Mexican Republic, and accounts for many great adjectives while evaluating such a destination!!!
Today we will be transferred to Monterrey and will board our flight to spend the night in the capital city of Tabasco state: Villahermosa
Overnight in Villahermosa.

Saturday, Feb 11 th, 2023
This morning we’ll visit one of the most mystical archaeological sites: Palenque!!! Admire the awesome buildings constructed by the Mayan People that at once dazzled Stephens, Catherwood, Charnay, and Frans Blom among others! Find out about the Temple of the Inscriptions and the amazing efforts to build inside the tomb of one of the most celebrated rulers in Mesoamerica: Kinich Janaab Pakal!
The local museum is a must to have a better understanding of the people that built this incredible archaeological city!
Overnight in Palenque

After breakfast, we’ll be off on a winding road to the town of Comitán, famous for the quality of its coffee. En route, we will make a stop to admire the unbelievable set of waterfalls known as Agua Azul: a place you don’t want to miss on your Chiapas tour. If possible, we will visit the archaeological site of Toniná. Let’s get a good night’s rest for tomorrow’s activity.
Overnight in Comitán.
Breakfast included.

After breakfast, we will go to the lakes of Montebello for great pictures. Coffee plantations grow along the roadside: remember that Chiapas State is one of the best coffee producers in Mexico! The lakes are just gorgeous, covering colors from Emerald green to Caribbean blue. Among them there is one known as the international lake: half of it belongs to the Mexican Republic and the other half is in Guatemala!
After lunch, we are up the road to reach the beautiful town of San Cristóbal de las Casas. Its altitude provides it with cool weather all year round: you may want to bring a good sweatshirt or coat, as the temperature drops in the evenings. After checking in, a walking tour will be offered by your guide to get you acquainted with this friendly town!!!
Overnight in San Cristóbal de las Casas

San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán are our two destinations for today!!! The local market of Chamula takes place across from the church atrium. Locals dress in black or white wool cotones (vests) and skirts. Tzotzil is the local language and is much more used than Spanish! Inside the church, pictures are not to be taken but your guide will help to understand the tremendous Anthropological meaning of the cultural practices carried out in this town. Very close is the
town of Zinacantán, where every family is dedicated to the preservation of woven fabrics! You will be amazed by the quality of their work and by the kindness they will treat you! After lunch, we go back to San Cristóbal de las Casas to enjoy some leisure time!

How about visiting this town in depth? Many picture-taking possibilities will line up along the day. The museum of Amber shows an amazing amount of information on this fossilized resin, and the quality of the artwork on display is just amazing. Or visiting the candy and handcraft market might be more
appealing to you? Within walking distance, a huge market where everything has to do with the lovely textile handcraft woven by local Tsotsil Indians; or perhaps a visit to meet with MD Sergio Castro? his contributions to the well-being of the many indigenous people in the area are just a journey we all should learn about.
You may want to consider a trolley ride and enjoying the many picturesque streets and alleys in town, sipping on a good coffee, for people-watching. Visiting the Jade Museum and the Mayan Textile Museum are other possibilities to explore.
Overnight in San Cristóbal de las Casas
Breakfast included

will be difficult to leave behind this lovely place, but we have to keep on moving! Today’s destination is Tuxtla Gutierrez! Be aware that the temperature in this city is hot and humid, so dress accordingly! Make sure to bring your hat, sunblock lotion, as well as a long sleeve shirt (however, our next activity
involves a boat that has two 100 HP engines, so, it might be wise to bring a windbreaker or a light jacket since some passengers might get somewhat cold)!
As soon as we arrive in Tuxtla Gutierrez, our bus will take us to visit the unbelievable Sumidero´s Canyon in the nearby municipality of Chiapa de Corzo, known because of its colonial architecture and typical “Parachicos” dancers. Then, shop the many stands around the square or visit the local marimba (xylophone) museum.
After dinner. We’ll take a night flight to arrive in Monterrey.

In the town of San Cristóbal de las Casas, the bus is not allowed to navigate the narrow streets, therefore, we will have to take taxis on our own (a taxi accommodates up to 4 people, and the fare is about 60 pesos a trip, about $3 dollars. If four people in a taxi share the cost, each one would pay about 75 cents. Only Mexican currency is accepted).

beyond the 20-mile allowed distance, is about $38 USD, and it is not included in the tour price!
